On our last edition of Just the Tip, Teri Moren and the Indiana Hoosiers delivered an easy victory as IUWBB cruised to an easy -11.5 winner over Penn State. Today I am keeping things close to the vest and staying in the great state of Indiana. I am keyed in on the Phoenix Suns vs the Indiana Pacers.
Both teams have started the year strong. The Pacers are off to a 6-2 record under new coach Nate Bjorkgren. 3 point shooters like Justin Holiday and Doug McDermott have thrived under the new system finding more open shots. Malcolm Brogdon is having his best year to date shooting a very efficient 51% from the field and 47% from 3 point range. Domantas Sabonis is playing like a bonafide MVP. Long-time followers of PopOffBaby.com know I have had a rocky relationship with Victor Oladipo downgrading him from one of my “guys” to a “former guy.” His attitude, sloppy play and off-the-court quotes in the bubble led me to believe he cared more about recording mediocre R&B albums than winning games. As a man of high integrity, I can admit when I’m wrong. Victor Oladipo is #back averaging 20.4 points per game and snagging 6.0 rebounds. It disgusts me to my core that Nate MacMillion made me hate someone I once loved.
*Alert the presses the “former guy” tag has been lifted from Victor Oladipo*
The Suns have picked right up where they left off in the bubble starting the year 6-3. The addition of Chris Paul has helped lift the team to new heights. I love watching this team. Mikal Bridges is one of my guys. Cameron Johnson has guy potential and with Cliff Paul offering veteran guidance I’m sure other players like Deandre Ayton will rise to fulltime guy status. The Suns success has been fueled by defense. They play the slowest pace of play in the Association. However, today they’re playing the second game of a back-to-back after losing in overtime to MY Detroit Pistons. The Pacers are coming off of their second day of rest. I expect rest to be the main factor in this matchup. The legs and hot shooting of the Pacers will dictate the pace of play in this game. I am locked in on the over 216 which is the lowest NBA total on the board for the day. I expect this to be an exciting game between two good teams where the Suns fatigue will play a major factor. The Suns are a very efficient offensive team where if the Pacers speed up the pace of play they will be able to keep up with scoring.
Lock it in.
