I’m tuned in on Facebook Live watching the Maine Red Claws square off against the Grand Rapids Drive tracking my bet of Over 160.5. As a fan of the G League, the Facebook Live experience is one of a kind. Got to love star Drive player Marcus Thornton’s mom in the comments cheering her baby on. Earlier in the game Red Claws player Speedy Smith’s Grandma was live as well.
There are 136 viewers live right now tuned into the broadcast most of which appear to be the player’s family members by the looks of the comment section. As a gambler this is a major selling point for the league that isn’t discussed enough. The comment section is not for the faint hearted if Grandma is tuning in. Omar from ‘The Wire’ couldn’t have said it better when he coined the age-old phrase “If you’re coming at Mama Thornton’s baby boi in the Grand Rapids Drive comment section, you best not miss.”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bet on a team and gotten screwed where I would’ve loved nothing more than to scream in their Grandma’s face to let them know that I thought their grandson was a coward.
If more people knew such direct access to the players families existed more people would watch the G League. This level of access is unprecedented and some would say problematic. All I know is that if 160.5 doesn’t hit, Mama Thornton and Speedy’s Grandma will be hearing my displeasure. And if they don’t like it, I’ve got two words for them.
